Early Friday morning last week, a fatal accident in the Chattahoochee Hills area left one person dead and another injured. According to the Chattahoochee Hills Police Department, the crash occurred on South Fulton Parkway/Georgia State Route 70 near Rico Road. FOX 5 Atlanta reported the collision happened around 4 a.m., leading to the closure of the road in both directions. Police have not yet released details about the cause of the crash or the identity of the deceased.

Chattahoochee Hills Fire Department crews responded to the scene at approximately 2:34 a.m., temporarily closing the area to manage the emergency. The Georgia State Patrol, now investigating the crash, said a Toyota attempted to improperly pass another vehicle and lost control. The Toyota crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a Honda. According to a statement obtained by 11Alive, the Toyota came to rest facing north and caught fire, while the Honda rotated and stopped off the south shoulder of the road.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The Fire Chief told 11Alive that the Honda rolled onto its side, entrapping the driver. After being extracted, the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. As of 7 a.m., the road was reopened to traffic.

The crash remains under investigation, and the identity of the victim has not yet been released.
