
A fatal shooting occurred this Monday in an independent living community in Sun City West, resulting in one dead and another severely wounded. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office reported to the scene at Grandview Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center, located near Grand Avenue and Meeker Boulevard, after receiving calls about the incident.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was rushed to the hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed as of yet. According to a FOX 10 Phoenix report, the shooting is being investigated as an attempted murder-suicide, but further details remain under investigation.
Subsequent to the events, Sun Health Communities stated on Tuesday, addressing the gravity of the situation. "We are aware of a tragic incident that occurred yesterday involving two residents at Grandview Terrace. At this time, law enforcement is investigating, and we are fully cooperating with their efforts. Law enforcement has confirmed that there is no ongoing threat, and the community is secure. Out of respect for those involved and their families, and in compliance with privacy laws, we are unable to share additional details at this time. Our thoughts are with the residents, families, and staff affected by this difficult situation," the statement read, as obtained by AZFamily.
While the investigation continues, the MCSO has reassured that there is no ongoing danger to the community.
