Early this morning, a residential fire in Cutler Bay tragically claimed one life and sent another individual to the hospital. WSVN reported that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the incident before 6 a.m. at a home located in the 9700 block of Montego Bay Drive.
Upon their arrival, emergency crews were met with heavy smoke billowing from the residence. While firefighters were fighting the blaze to keep it from spreading to neighboring structures, one of the two occupants inside the home was able to self-evacuate, and another was rescued, as captured by The Miami Herald. Both victims were subsequently transported to a local hospital; however, one did not survive their injuries.
Neighbors have identified the residents of the home as an elderly couple, but their names have not been officially released. The condition of the surviving individual remains undisclosed by the authorities. The fire was successfully extinguished, with the scorched remains of the home's roof line evident in footage recorded at the scene. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. As firefighters extinguished the fire, according to local sources, the heavy smoke that once choked the air has since cleared.
