The Modular Housing Development Fund is an example of Oregon's commitment to finding innovative solutions to its housing shortage—a plight echoed in urban centers and rural communities across America. The fund was instituted with the backing of Governor Tina Kotek and the Oregon legislature, signaling a shared perspective on the need for a diverse approach to the housing crisis.

The beneficiaries of these grants, including Blazer Industries in Aumsville, InteliFab in Klamath Falls, Pacific Wall Systems in Phoenix, and Zaugg Timber Solutions in Portland, are making use of the MHDF grants to modernize their facilities, adopt cutting-edge technologies, and scale production. For instance, Blazer Industries has allotted their $5 million grant towards the enhancement of its production systems and creation of ready-to-build home designs. These advancements are touted to add anywhere from 100 to 200 homes per year, prioritizing affordability and readiness for disaster recovery scenarios, as reported by the Oregon Housing and Community Services.

Pacific Wall Systems (PacWall) is boosting its ability to provide emergency housing and store units for faster deployment. They’ve also added strong equipment to move wall panels more easily in the factory. InteliFab has expanded its facility, added new tools, and trained workers—now able to build a two-bedroom home every two days. Zaugg Timber Solutions invested in special equipment to create affordable modular timber housing. These changes show progress toward faster, cheaper, and more sustainable housing becoming more common, as per the Oregon Housing and Community Services.
