Oregon Senate Republicans have created an interactive map showing opposition to Governor Tina Kotek’s proposed $4.3 billion transportation tax increase. The map includes over 5,000 pieces of testimony from Oregonians, showing opposition across both cities and rural areas, as reported by the Oregon Legislature.
Senate Republican Leader Bruce Starr of Dundee emphasized the widespread opposition to the proposal. "The scale and breadth of this opposition is undeniable. From small towns to big cities, Oregonians are speaking with one voice," he said, according to the Oregon Legislature. Starr said Republicans are focused on solutions that do not increase costs for families.
Oregon lawmakers are debating a proposed tax hike to fund transportation projects under Governor Kotek’s plan. The Legislature has not yet reached a compromise. Republicans shared a map showing constituent opposition and suggested using the existing budget instead of raising taxes. Starr said, "We will continue to stand with the thousands of Oregonians demanding their government live within its means just like every family in this state must," as mentioned by the Oregon Legislature.
