In a sobering reminder of the risks that come with the natural splendor of our state's hiking trails, tragedy struck on the Linda Vista trail in Oro Valley this past weekend. KVOA reports that two female hikers were found in distress by first responders on Saturday afternoon.
One of the women, Lyn Lagergren, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition, as per KVOA. The Pima County Sheriff's Department, along with local fire departments, responded to the emergency call that came in at around 1:45 p.m.
The conditions that led to this harsh outcome are not yet clear, the second hiker, whose identity has not been released, is still fighting for her life. In a statement to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Pima Country Sheriff's Department noted that "No suspicious circumstances were noted, and the investigation remains ongoing," leaving the exact circumstances of Lagergren's death currently unknown.
