A disturbing scene unraveled in Litchfield Park, where the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) discovered more than 70 dogs in what they described as "deplorable conditions." The investigation, stemming from a Facebook tip, led to a Tuesday search warrant at a residence near Camelback Road and Jackrabbit Trail, where detectives found dogs packed in crates without access to food or water and living amongst their own feces, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.

MCSO Det. Dave Evans said, "There's over 60 dogs in this residence. So we know who the homeowner is, we know who she is, she's not going anywhere. Our goal is to get these animals out of this situation," as obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The smell of feces and urine was so overpowering, it was noticeable from the street, the odor, a testament to the neglect suffered within. Among the seized animals were many Goldendoodles and weeks-old puppies, the homeowner allegedly having sold these "designer dogs" for over two years.

The MCSO suspects that this suspected breeding operation has been running for a couple of years. "This is pretty bad. Again, you have dogs standing in their own feces, barely being able to turn around in cages, no water," Evans revealed in a statement acquired by 12News. Neighbors expressed shock and sadness over the conditions these animals had to endure, with one, Ricky Blicharski, telling how he never suspected such a situation despite knowing the couple raised dogs.

While the rescued dogs are receiving medical care, MCSO is now focusing on the criminal aspects of the case. The homeowners, who were reportedly living in a casita behind the main house, could face over 100 charges related to the mistreatment of the animals. "There's going to be numerous charges. There's going to be medical charges once we get the blood results back from the dogs. There's going to be additional charges," Det. Evans outlined, as per FOX 10 Phoenix. The MCSO has yet to make any arrests in the case, and the dogs will remain as evidence until potentially being relinquished from previous ownership.
