A routine evening in Pacific Beach was disrupted by a harrowing incident yesterday when a 39-year-old man was struck by a car while crossing Grand Avenue. The San Diego Police Department reported that the collision occurred at the 2500 block of Grand Avenue around 7:41 PM.
Officer J. Perales, serving as the Watch Commander at the time of the incident, detailed that the victim was crossing the street mid-block when he was hit by a blue Toyota Prius, which was being driven westbound by a 48-year-old woman. The force of the impact left the pedestrian with a spinal fracture, brain bleed, and additional serious injuries, such as a dislocated knee and a collapsed lung. Following the crash, the injured man was taken to a local hospital, where he is currently facing life-threatening challenges.
The authorities have affirmed that alcohol was not a contributing factor in this severe accident. Instead, the stark details depict a sobering scene of an ordinary street crossing gone tragically awry. The San Diego Police Traffic Division has taken over the investigation, navigating the aftermath with their typical diligence.
While the Traffic Division continues its work, they urge anyone with information about the incident to step forward. Anyone with information about the above incident(s) is encouraged to call the listed Command handling the investigation or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
