In what might come as a slight relief to motorists in Peoria, gas prices have taken a bit of a dip. Reports from 25News indicate that the average gas price in Peoria is down 1.8 cents per gallon over the last week, settling at $3.31 on Monday. This marks a decrease from not just the previous week, but also from both a month ago by 6.3 cents and from the same time last year by 6.2 cents.
While drivers in Peoria may be noticing some savings at the pump, they are reflective of a broader national trend. The national average has dropped to $3.08 per gallon, a 5.8-cent decline from last week, a fact noted by GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan. In a statement obtained by Central Illinois Proud, De Haan attributes the reductions primarily to seasonal changes, like the shift to winter gasoline formulations and a decrease in gasoline demand, saying, "Gas prices have seen a notable weekly drop in most states as seasonal factors ramp up their impact—namely the switch to cheaper winter gasoline and falling gasoline demand."
A variance in fuel prices can still be found within the local Peoria stations, with the lowest price being reported at $3.14 and the highest hitting $3.49. In comparison, the figures for the entire state reveal a more substantial range, showing the lowest at $2.69 and the highest at a stark $4.79.
AAA Illinois has also provided data that echoes GasBuddy's findings, citing the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area at $3.31 a gallon, with the state average slightly higher at $3.37, and the national average price of gas positioned at $3.13. "For now, seasonal factors will remain the primary driver of relief at the pump, though we continue to monitor the tropics for any potential disruptions to seasonal trends," De Haan told Central Illinois Proud. With this in mind, consumers may have more to consider than just the changing leaves when it comes to this autumn's gas prices.
