A 43-year-old Peru, Indiana man has been taken into custody on allegations of possessing child sex abuse material (CSAM), with the arrest following a complaint initially lodged in July. The Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children task force and troopers from the ISP’s Peru post apprehended Jason L. Jessup after executing a search warrant at his residence, where multiple electronic devices allegedly containing CSAM were seized, as reported by FOX59.
Formal charges were handed down to Jessup in the form of 10 counts of possession of child sex abuse material, each a Level 5 felony, and although the arrest was made without incident, the investigation into Jessup's activities persists, as stated in additional coverage by Clinton County Daily News. The collaborative efforts of local and federal agencies, including the Kokomo Police Department and the Office of Special Investigations (USAF), contributed to the investigation and the prompt response following an arrest warrant issued by the Miami Superior Court II on Wednesday.
The Indiana State Police underscore that the charges against Jessup are mere accusations at this stage of the legal process with the presumption of innocence maintained until proven guilty—Jessup's legal representation appeared in Miami County court on Thursday in connection with the case, as conveyed by authorities and media reporting.
Concerted efforts to combat internet crimes against children in Indiana involve multiple agencies under the ICAC Task Force, such an agency that annually deals with thousands of tips and investigations leading to child rescues from sexual abuse situations, while The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is highlighted as a reporting mechanism for online exploitation, the Indiana ICAC's work and the importance of public vigilance can be further understood through its online presence, this information was outlined in the coverage shared by WISHTV.
