It has been a year since the untimely death of 26-year-old Victoria Hahlen, whose body was discovered in a remote area near Cave Creek, and her family's quest for answers and justice continues with little resolve. Victoria, a Phoenix mother known for her vibrant energy and the joy she brought to those around her, is survived by a young son and a family whose grief remains palpable. "She could light up a room," Victoria’s sister, Danielle Hahlen, said in a statement obtained by ABC15. "She could make anybody laugh, smile. She had a big, big heart."
Details surrounding the circumstances of Hahlen’s death are sparse. The body was found on September 10, 2024, near 32nd Street and Cloud Road, and was later identified as Victoria Hahlen, as FOX 10 Phoenix reported at the time. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) has since declared the case a homicide but has neither made any arrests nor named any suspects. The family has found themselves ensnared in a bureaucratic limbo, having filed multiple requests for the Medical Examiner’s report since December without success.
For the family left behind, including Victoria's three-year-old son, the waiting deepens the anguish. Her mother, Shelly Hahlen, described her loss as "a permanent absence." "Nobody had the right to take my daughter away from me,” Shelly Hahlen told ABC15. The vacuum of information not only perpetuates their suffering but also leaves an open wound: the fear that another family could suffer a similar fate.
As Victoria's son approaches his fifth birthday, he is growing up under the care of family members who step in to give him the love and attention his mother can no longer provide. "You can tell he knows, because he looks for her," Danielle Hahlen said, according to ABC15. The Hahlens continue to hold on to the memories of Victoria, cherishing the laughter and moments shared, and have a deeply-seated hope that justice will eventually be served.
The MCSO reaffirmed that the investigation into Hahlen's death remains active and encourages the public to come forward with any information. Anyone with knowledge on the case is urged to contact the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office at 602-876-1011.
