
The Phoenix Mercury defeated the New York Liberty 79-73 to advance in the WNBA playoffs, led by Alyssa Thomas’s fifth career playoff triple-double. Thomas recorded 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, helping the fourth-seeded Mercury move on to the semifinals against top-seeded Minnesota, abc15 reported.
Satou Sabally added 23 points and 12 rebounds, while DeWanna Bonner’s eight rebounds allowed her to surpass Candace Parker as the WNBA playoff all-time rebound leader with 614. The Mercury outrebounded the Liberty 49-33.
Despite a sprained MCL, New York’s Breanna Stewart scored 30 points, but the team struggled from three-point range, making just one of 17 attempts in the second half, AP News reported. The Mercury maintained a late lead, securing the win and a spot in the semifinals against Minnesota.
