Authorities in Phoenix rushed to Turning Point USA headquarters on Wednesday after a "suspicious bag" was reported near the site's growing memorial for the group's late co-founder, Charlie Kirk. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the bag was discovered on September 17 outside the headquarters located at 48th Street and Baseline Road.
The Phoenix Police Department responded rapidly, bringing in a bomb squad to assess the potential threat. The area was evacuated out of an abundance of caution, as per ABC15. Following the procedure, just after 9:30 a.m., authorities declared the bag to be safe and subsequently lifted the area restrictions.
Despite the all-clear, the contents of the bag remain undisclosed, and it is unclear if anyone has been taken into custody in relation to the incident. This occurs amidst heightened security at Turning Point USA headquarters, where supporters have been visiting to honor Kirk, who was assassinated in Utah on September 10.
The conservative youth organization has faced disturbances in recent days, including the arrest of a 19-year-old accused of vandalizing the memorial last weekend, police records indicated. Events echo the organization's turbulent times as it continues to reel from the loss of its figurehead. Moreover, a public memorial for Kirk is scheduled to take place on Sunday at State Farm Stadium.
