A tragic incident unfolded in the Florida Keys as Cameron Isaiah Queen, a 17-year-old from Plantation, lost his life in a water-related incident. The teenager was diving using a hookah rig off Grassy Key yesterday afternoon when the accident occurred, both The Miami Herald and Local 10 reported.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 1:30 p.m., when Queen was returning to his boat after a dive, he submerged and did not resurface, his companions initiated CPR, while awaiting aid. Dispatches from both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were quick to respond to the emergency call. Deputies have stated that they do not suspect foul play was involved.
Despite the rescue efforts, Queen was pronounced dead after being transported to Fishermen’s Community Hospital in Marathon. The severity of the events leading to this outcome is yet to be fully understood as autopsy results are still pending.
Details surrounding Queen's death are limited, but the usage of hookah rigs – which are typically tankless and supply oxygen through a hose connected to a surface compressor – points towards the complexities and potential hazards of underwater excursions.
