More than four months after a shooting in Southeast Portland, police have apprehended the alleged gunman, now 18 years old. Jomonee J. Foster of Portland is facing charges of attempted murder and assault, stemming from a violent incident that left a man critically injured. The shooting took place on May 17, and investigators had been on the suspect's trail since the occurrence.
According to details released by the Portland Police Bureau, officers were called to the 11000 block of Southeast Flavel Street where they found an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders provided life-saving aid at the scene before the victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim, whose condition was stabilized, survived the potentially fatal encounter.
In the wake of the shooting, a vehicle was noted speeding away in the vicinity and was later found abandoned. Though the vehicle's occupants eluded initial capture, the police employed a drone to aid in their search, to no avail. However, continued efforts by the Enhanced Community Safety Team and the Forensic Evidence Division eventually led to the identification of Foster as their prime suspect. Foster, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, had since turned 18.
Yesterday, Foster was located and taken into custody without incident. "PPB remains committed to thoroughly investigating incidents of gun violence and holding those responsible accountable in order to keep our communities safe," the bureau stated in their news release. Foster is now detained at the Multnomah County Detention Center, facing a charge of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree.
