In a move that's shaking up the INDYCAR landscape, racing veteran Will Power is set to don a new suit after signing with Andretti Global for the 2026 season, as indicated by a recent announcement from the team. The former INDYCAR champion will be hopping into the No. 26 Honda, filling the spot left vacant by Colton Herta, who's shifting gears to join the F1 ranks as a test driver for Cadillac's Formula 1 team, FOX59 reported.
The shifting of Power from Team Penske, a relationship that spanned an impressive 17 years, represents a significant change in the racer's career trajectory. Power, 44, had hoped to renew with Penske but decided, after much speculation, to part ways and to actively seek a fresh competitive environment. Following a significant win at Portland International Raceway last month—Penske's first of the 2025 season—Power hinted that the decision to move might finally be in his hands, according to details found by IndyStar.
Power's transition to Andretti Global positions him alongside confirmed teammates Kyle Kirkwood and Marcus Ericsson, rounding out the team's roster for the upcoming races. Power expressed his enthusiasm about the change, citing the energizing effect of new surroundings and the anticipation of driving for Honda—previously a fierce competitor. "I’m also looking forward to driving for Honda," Power said in an interview. "They’ve been a tough competitor, and I look forward to working with the entire HRC team. Also, I have tremendous respect for Kyle and Marcus. I’ve had some great battles racing against them, and I think we’re going to make a great combination as teammates," as reported by IndyCar.
While fans prepare to soon witness Herta's departure from INDYCAR, Power's arrival at Andretti is heralded with high expectations from the paddock, some even believing he has the potential to once again capture the championship trophy. The veteran driver's track record adds a layer of excitement to Andretti's lineup, as they look to navigate back to the top spot on the podium with Power's experience to help lead the charge. "This is a whole new chapter for me. I have to say that sometimes a change of scenery and a fresh start is very energizing. I can’t wait," Power told IndyCar, marking a tone of renewed vigor for his racing career. As the engines cool down from the recent season's finish, all eyes will be on Power and Andretti Global to see how this blend of seasoned skill and dynamic team synergy will play out on the tracks come 2026.
