A recent two-car collision in Richland Parish has resulted in a fatality. The Louisiana State Police reported that Samantha Gaydon, a 59-year-old resident of Rayville, died from injuries sustained in the crash that occurred early on Tuesday. The tragic event unfolded just after 7 a.m. on U.S. Highway 425 at the Louisiana Highway 135 intersection.
The initial findings reveal that Gaydon, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer, was heading east on Louisiana Highway 135 when she failed to sufficiently yield at the stop sign. This misjudgment led to her vehicle striking the right side of a southbound 2022 Ford Edge on U.S. Highway 425. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the incident. Gaydon, despite being properly restrained, received serious injuries which later proved fatal after her transportation to an area hospital. The driver of the Ford sustained only minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment, as reported by the Louisiana State Police.
The ongoing investigation is looking to fully determine the causes behind the collision, with routine toxicology samples already collected for analysis. The results are pending, and the police have not yet released any further details about the possible factors that could have contributed to the crash. State authorities continue to remind the public about the life-saving importance of wearing seat belts. As per Louisiana law, every passenger in a vehicle is mandated to always stay buckled up, as per the Louisiana State Police.
