Following a series of events that escalated from a bar altercation to a shooting incident, Diego Albil Perezpinzon, aged 28, is facing serious legal consequences. The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office announced that Perezpinzon will be arraigned on September 18 after being held to answer on five felony charges and enhancements. These charges stem from an incident where he allegedly discharged a firearm into the air and ground after a fight outside a bar, which resulted in a bystander suffering a graze wound to the leg. The DA's office has confirmed that the incident was captured on video.

In a detailed report published by the San Mateo Police Department on the initial arrest, during the early morning hours of April 14, 2023, officers swiftly responded to the report of a shooting on the unit block of 37th Avenue. It appears that Perezpinzon was involved in a physical fight with two other males inside a bar, which, brutally, but not uncommonly, continued on the streets. According to the same report, after seizing a firearm from a vehicle, Perezpinzon fired shots into the sky and then at the ground, causing minor injury to a 26-year-old man's ankle. Subsequently, the SMPD identified Perezpinzon as the shooter and arrested him near his Redwood City residence.
The charges against Perezpinzon are severe, including assault with a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, criminal threats, exhibiting a firearm, possession of a firearm by a person on probation, and carrying a loaded firearm. He was a 25-year-old Redwood City resident at the time of his arrest. As part of community safety efforts, the San Mateo Police Department reminds residents, "If you see something, say something," urging street-facing security cameras to help identify suspicious activities in neighborhoods.
