The streets of Citrus Heights were the scene of a fatal outcome following a police chase involving a motorcyclist late Monday night. Devin James Newton, a 28-year-old from Roseville, was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office as the deceased. A pursuit initiated over vehicle code violations ended tragically at the intersection of Antelope Road and Mariposa Avenue where Newton collided with a car, resulting in his death.
As per reports from ABC10, the chase began around 8:20 p.m. when Newton allegedly failed to yield to an officer's attempt to stop him near Antelope Road and Wonder Street. The chase escalated as Newton reportedly ran red lights, sped through stop signs, and even extinguished his headlights.
The pursuit, which detailed in a report by Hoodline, included a Sacramento Police Department helicopter relaying information to officers on the ground. Nonetheless, the cooperation between ground units and aerial support could not prevent a severe crash.
The crash's impact ejected Newton from his motorcycle, and despite the life-saving measures performed by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car involved in the collision was fortunate to escape injury. The Major Accident Investigation Team of the Citrus Heights Police Department is currently handling the ongoing investigation into the details of the chase and the subsequent crash.
