Salt Lake City dwellers can anticipate a mixed bag of weather in the coming days, with the National Weather Service forecasting a concoction of sunny skies and potential thunderstorms. Today, there's a 20 percent chance of rain and thunder after noon, despite the currently clear sky and comfortable 64°F morning temperature, according to the National Weather Service.
As we look ahead, residents should prepare for partly sunny conditions with temperatures expected to hit a warm 87 degrees; an east southeast breeze will shift south southwest later in the day, then tonight's forecast shows partly cloudy skies with a low around 63 and calm east winds, though Monday's outlook is sunny with temperatures climbing once again to the upper 80s. Monday night, however, brings a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms with a similar drop in temperature to the low 60s; a south-southwest wind could feel like a gentle whisper in the evening air.
But the unpredictability of mountain-driven atmospheric patterns leaves room for a 30 percent chance of precipitation come Tuesday, as thunderstorms join the possible rain after 3 pm under mostly sunny skies, the southeast wind picking up to a moderate pace. The night will likely mirror the day's uncertainty with a persistent 20 percent chance of showers under mostly cloudy darkness as temperatures dip to the low 60s.
Continuing the theme, Wednesday to Friday also holds a possibility of precipitation after noon with fluctuating chances of showers and thunderstorms while the high temperatures for each day slowly descend from the mid-80s to the mid-70s; the nights following suit as their accompanying lows steadily sink to the mid-50s by week's end, the NWS anticipates a notable cooling as the weekend approaches with the skies clearing by Saturday, when sunnier weather should prevail and lift temperatures back to the more pleasant high 70s.
