San Diego commuters and travelers planning to use the coastal rail service should be prepared for a temporary suspension of service the weekend of September 20-21. The North County Transit San Diego Railroad has halted all COASTER service between Oceanside and San Diego to carry out essential maintenance and infrastructure work safely. Regular service is expected to resume on Monday, September 22.
While an inconvenience, these scheduled disruptions are part of a broader preventative strategy to maintain and improve rail service. According to NCTD’s notice, the planned works aim to support and initiate significant railroad construction. Major projects for this period include stabilizing the Del Mar bluffs in Phase 5 and track maintenance at the Sorrento Valley Station.
Despite the service suspension, locals living near the railway corridor should expect to see test trains, construction vehicles, and equipment along the tracks during the weekend. NCTD emphasizes the continued importance of safety, reminding residents and the public "to only cross the rail line at lawfully designated rail crossings."
