San Diego residents can expect a reprieve from the more intense heat as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts suggest a slight temperature dip before gradually climbing back up in the coming days. According to the NWS San Diego, inland areas will see temperatures 10-15°F below average today and tomorrow, providing temporary relief from the usual heat.

In the short term, "A low pressure system will continue to move slowly inland through the western states through Friday and into the Rockies on Saturday with high pressure aloft moving to near the West Coast on Saturday," the NWS San Diego reported. Highs for Thursday in the Inland Empire will be in the upper 70s, escalating into the mid 80s today, with the lower deserts experiencing lower to mid 90s, inching upwards to upper 90s to 104 by next Wednesday. Currently hovering around 3000 feet, the marine layer is expected to shrink over the weekend, affecting coastal low cloud coverage.

Looking ahead to the latter part of next week, some influx of monsoonal moisture may affect the region. "Some monsoonal moisture may return for the middle and latter part of next week," NWS San Diego's area forecast discussion indicates. This moisture could heighten chances for rainfall in certain inland areas, with the forecast showing increasing probabilities of measurable precipitation for locales like Big Bear across the latter days of the following week.

For those looking to the skies, aviation conditions remain favorable with VFR (Visual Flight Rules) dominating the outlook for mountains and deserts. However, "Westerly winds of 25-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph 21-08Z today and tonight through mountain passes into adjacent deserts, causing isolated pockets of LLWS and up/downdrafts in lee of mountains," as per the NWS San Diego discussion. Mariners will be glad to note that no hazardous conditions are anticipated through Monday.
