San Francisco police nabbed a suspect just days after a spate of bank robberies in the Central District. According to the San Francisco Police Department, on Wednesday at approximately 12:02 PM, officers from Central Station responded to a robbery alert at a bank on the 1100 block of Grant Avenue, where they were informed a male suspect had demanded money from an employee, escaping with a cache of cash immediately after.
The suspect, identified as 62-year-old Valentino Luchin of San Francisco, wasn't on the lam for long as police, leveraging community tips and the efforts of SFPD Ambassadors, managed to piece together Luchin's identity and whereabouts. He was living in the very district where the robberies took place. This information set the stage for his capture with no further incidents, and on the same day, officers linked Luchin to two additional bank robberies that had occurred, noting that the description and methods matched those of the earlier crime.
Not content to merely apprehend the suspect, SFPD investigators swooped into action and, with assistance from SFPD Ambassadors and leads from the community, they announced Luchin's arrest. He was booked at the San Francisco County Jail on multiple charges, including robbery and attempted robbery.
