San Franciscans should brace for a warm spell as temperatures climb above normal through Wednesday. According to NWS San Francisco, locals can expect highs ranging from the mid-80s to upper 90s in inland areas, and along the coast, temperatures will be comfortably in the 70s to low 80s. With a Moderate HeatRisk warning in effect mid-week, the NWS advises the public to stay hydrated and limit time outdoors during peak heat.
The heat is not the only concern, as the NWS has projected a near-critical fire weather threat for Thursday and Friday. Dry thunderstorms with abundant lightning could pose new wildfire risks, with rapid spread likely due to erratic wind conditions. This follows a week of conditions that, despite last week’s precipitation, have not marked the end of the fire season, as confirmed by the Area Forecast Discussion. As the temperatures rise and nighttime humidity drops, especially in elevated regions, so does the potential for fire hazards.
A pattern shift could bring a chance for elevated dry thunderstorms by Thursday, with the NWS San Francisco forecasting a 20 percent chance of showers by Thursday afternoon. The unstable weather could continue into the weekend, with a slight chance of showers forecasted as late as Saturday night.
