The San José Police Department is currently investigating a fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian, marking the city's 23rd traffic-related death in 2025. The incident involved a collision between a bicyclist and a pedestrian last Wednesday evening, around 7:13 PM, along Ocala Avenue at the intersection with Berona Way.

According to the SJPD's official report, a blue 16-speed Centurion bicycle operated by an adult male was traveling westbound in the dedicated bike lane when it struck an adult female pedestrian. The victim, who was also going westbound in the bike lane, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was later stabilized.

The bicyclist remained at the scene after the collision. Upon further investigation, he was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail under the suspicion of DUI on a bicycle, causing injury, and for being under the influence of a controlled substance, the San Jose police department disclosed.

Yesterday, the SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit received the unfortunate news that the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday. The identity of the deceased has not been released yet; it will be disclosed by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner once available.
