On Monday morning, San José Police Department officers were called to a scene of tragedy on Hayes Avenue and Lily Ann Way. A collision had taken place between a vehicle and a pedestrian—this time, the victim was an adult male in a wheelchair, as reported by the San José Police Department. According to the department's statement, the pedestrian was struck by a 2017 silver Mercedes sedan and was severely injured.
Despite efforts to save the man's life, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a local hospital. The driver responsible initially chose to flee, only to be discovered and apprehended at a nearby residence shortly after. In a statement obtained by the San José Police Department, the driver was booked into Santa Clara County Jail, facing grave charges including felony hit and run and manslaughter.
This incident marks the 22nd traffic death and equally the 22nd fatal collision within San José for the year 2025. Pedestrians have been especially vulnerable, with the department confirming that this marks the 12th death in this category.
