Tragedy struck the streets of San José yesterday when a vehicle collided with an electric scooter, resulting in the city's 24th traffic death this year. The San José Police Department reports that a black Ram pickup truck hit a female scooterist at the intersection of Santa Clara Street and Cahill Street around 8:02 AM. The incident, which is now under investigation, marks a continued unsettling trend in traffic-related fatalities.
Despite the efforts of first responders, the scooter rider later died from her injuries after being rushed to a local hospital. The driver, meanwhile, fled the scene in a vehicle later identified as an unreported stolen truck. The San José Police Department has found the deserted vehicle, but the driver remains unidentified and at large. As per the ongoing investigation, no further details about the victim have been released, pending notification of kin by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
