A former preschool teacher and youth group volunteer, identified as Bush Lai, 37, has been arrested and charged with the possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). San José Police Department disclosed the arrests after an investigation led by their Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)/Child Exploitation Detail (CED) Task Force unearthed multiple files of CSAM in Lai’s possession.

According to the San Jose Police Department, suspicious activity was detected in late August 2025, when a client made multiple transfers to a cryptocurrency wallet linked to CSAM of a cryptocurrency trading platform. The transaction led detectives to Bush Lai’s doorstep, who was recently teaching preschoolers at a school located on Clarinda Way and volunteering with local youth in San José.

Last Wednesday, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Lai's residence, seizing devices confirming his involvement with CSAM. Following the discovery, Lai was taken into custody. The suspect's involvement with children has heightened concern due to the positions of trust he held; hence, the SJPD is actively seeking information from anyone who might have insights related to the case.

Lai's arrest was part of a concerted effort involving various agencies, including the ICAC Task Force, the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and units within the San Jose Police Department dedicated to human trafficking and sex offender registration supervision.
