In a routine yet vital response, the Santa Clara County Fire Department firefighters battled and quickly contained a small vegetation fire that erupted alongside I-280 in Los Altos Hills yesterday. According to an update shared by the Santa Clara County Fire Department on Facebook, the fire was reported off the southbound freeway, just north of El Monte Avenue, at around 3:58 PM.
Responders from County Fire Safety 72, Rescue 74 from El Monte Station, and Engine 76 from Loyola Station were swiftly at the scene, encountering a 1/8-acre blaze in dry grass. Moving at a slow rate of spread on the freeway shoulder, the incident called for immediate action, preventing the fire from affecting a nearby neighborhood.
Firefighting teams worked diligently to cut a line around the vegetation, followed by a thorough cooling and mopping-up procedure, ensuring the fire was fully contained and posed no further threat. "A line was cut around the vegetation, cooled and mopped up, ensuring no additional fires would start," detailed the Santa Clara County Fire Department's social media post. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
