An inmate at the Scott County Jail, 26-year-old Tommy Long, has been charged with additional felonies after allegedly assaulting and raping another inmate within the facility. According to WVLT, the victim recounted being assaulted multiple times from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1. The incidents described involve Long allegedly slapping the victim, along with punching, kicking, choking, and a sexual assault, resulting in the victim requiring emergency medical attention. Long, who had been in custody since June 5 on various charges, now faces five counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated rape.
The allegations include a claim from the victim that Long sprayed him with a cleaning chemical and assaulted him while others in their pod were asleep. WBIR reported that Long was initially jailed for evading arrest, theft of property, and drug possession. Following the internal investigation prompted by these recent events, one jail personnel member has been terminated by the Sheriff's Office.
Video surveillance has been collected as evidence for the ongoing case. The severity of the victim's injuries was emphasized by the need for emergency medical treatment at Big South Fork Medical Center, as per WBIR. The investigation remains active, and further charges may be pending.
