
Earlier today, a fire erupted in a Manhattan high-rise when a couch in the hallway suddenly ignited, leading to seven injuries. PIX11 reported that the incident took place around 12:40 a.m. in a building on Amsterdam Avenue, with the New York City Fire Department quickly responding to the distressing scene.
With nearly eighty firefighters and emergency medical services swiftly converging on the 13-story structure, flames engulfed the 8th floor before being brought under control by 1:16 a.m., as noted by the PIX11 coverage. Among the seven afflicted individuals, three were taken to local hospitals for treatment, whereas, four others refused medical attention on the scene. At this moment, the cause of the fire remains a mystery, an uncertainty that fire marshals are earnestly working to dispel through an ongoing investigation.
Additional details emerged from Patch, which identified the location as part of the Amsterdam Houses complex, a public housing complex situated between 62nd Street and 63rd Street. This particular complex falls under the jurisdiction of the New York City Housing Authority.
The same report confirms the number of first responders involved, numbering at 78 firefighters, who collectively managed to subdue the intense situation and prevent further tragedy.
