
A tragic blaze in Smyrna, which claimed the life of a woman early Wednesday morning, is being investigated as a homicide. Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 4:15 a.m. to an apartment at 810 Windy Hill Road SE, where they discovered the body of 32-year-old Mary Olivia Matthews, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The Smyrna Police Department is now treating the case as a homicide after the initial suspicion of the circumstances surrounding Matthews' death.
While the fire was contained to just one unit, the grim discovery has prompted a call for public assistance, the police are reaching out for nearby residents and businesses to share security footage that might shed light on any unusual activity around the time of the incident which the time had observed to be around 4 a.m. and neighbors have reported the removal of two doorbell cameras from an adjacent building though police have yet to link this to their ongoing investigation, according to WSB Radio.
Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect in Matthews' death and continue to seek any information that would aid in apprehending the individual responsible for this crime.
