Residents of the Gardens at Camp Creek Apartments in South Fulton are grappling with fear and uncertainty after a double shooting yesterday left two people wounded. Police arrived on the scene around 5:46 p.m. to find one individual in critical condition and another stable. Detectives from the South Fulton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division were to thoroughly investigate the crime scene, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
This incident is the latest act of violence at the complex, coming just a week after a one-year-old was shot. Detectives are now working to determine if the two cases are connected as they continue their search for answers and justice.
According to a Atlanta News First report, the victims of yesterday's shooting are believed to be a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old. The community’s sentiment during this time is one of deep concern, particularly for the younger residents’ welfare. Kenroy Arnold, a resident of the complex, told FOX 5 Atlanta, "I got on the floor, it just ducked, so I won't get hit," emphasizing the immediate danger faced when such violent outbursts occur. Arnold also raised concerns about the children in the complex, stating, "Yeah, it's really dangerous. Like, there's a lot of kids running around here, and a lot kids being outside. And it's, like, dangerous. If a kid was outside, they could have got shot or, like a stray bullet or something."
Residents like Carean Warner are left to fear for their families’ safety. "Like when I heard the gunshots, it made me feel like if something could have happened to the kids outside, like if families could have been put in danger," Warner said, according to the same interview with FOX 5 Atlanta.
The investigations into both shootings remain ongoing, with officers working to piece together the circumstances that led to these instances of gunfire. No suspect information has been released in relation to the most recent shooting. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
