Governor Tim Walz has called a special election for District 34B, which includes part of Brooklyn Park. Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, September 16, to choose a new representative for the Minnesota House.
Absentee and early voting are already underway. Hennepin County has mailed ballots to registered voters and encourages residents to drop them off in person at Brooklyn Park City Hall to ensure timely delivery ahead of Election Day, according to the City of Brooklyn Park bulletin.
In-person early voting is available at the Hennepin County Government Center and Brooklyn Park City Hall. Hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. These extended hours are intended to give voters flexibility before polls officially open.
For those who did not pre-register by September 9, same-day voter registration will be available at polling locations on Election Day. Voters will need proof of residence, which can include a driver’s license, state ID, or another accepted form of documentation.
On September 16, polls across District 34B will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to check their polling place in advance and bring the necessary identification if registering at the polls.
