A carjacking suspect is now in custody following a pursuit through Springfield yesterday afternoon. The Springfield Police Department responded to reports of a carjacking at the intersection of Bay Street and Cambridge Street at approximately 4:15 p.m., where a victim had been robbed at gunpoint by two individuals.

Officers located the stolen vehicle on Tapley Street around an hour later, near Edgewood Street, where the driver, identified as Christian Soto Pi, attempted to rapidly evade police. According to the official police statement released on the SPD website, Soto Pi's refusal to stop led to a reckless chase, after which the vehicle was found abandoned on Oakwood Terrace.

The ensuing search led authorities to a wooded area off Cortland Street. With the aid of a K9 unit, Officer John Ruyffelaret and K9 Walker were able to locate Soto Pi, while the other suspect remains at large. The investigation, spearheaded by the Springfield Police Detective Bureau, is ongoing.

Christian Soto Pi, 23, of Springfield faces several charges, including Firearm-Armed Carjacking, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, as detailed in a report published on the Springfield Police Department's official site. Additional charges include Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Class B Drug, Larceny under $1200, and a Default Warrant originating from Holyoke District Court for a similar larceny charge.
