In a recent turn of events, Springfield Police have taken a 15-year-old into custody following an armed carjacking incident. The arrest, conducted by detectives from the Springfield Police Auto-Theft Unit, falls under the helm of Captain Trent Duda.
Details of the harrowing episode were relayed by the Springfield Police Department. The ordeal began on Sunday afternoon when, at roughly 3:00 p.m., officers were called to respond to the 1100 block of Wilbraham Road. It was there that two suspects allegedly managed to force a teenage girl at gunpoint to quickly exit her family's vehicle before they commandeered and fled in the stolen car.
The vehicle's theft was short-lived, however, as it was recovered two days later in Chicopee. An investigation ensued, allowing detectives and officers successfully to identify one of the suspects as a known 15-year-old male, who was already on their radar for past incidents. With a warrant in hand, authorities made their move.
Yesterday afternoon, the young suspect, who notably was wearing an ankle monitor at the time due to his prior incidents, was apprehended on Lincoln Street. According to police reports, this individual has been arrested six times over the past 18 months, each instance involving warrants or stolen motor vehicle charges. Due to the suspect's age, neither his identity nor the specifics of the charges pressed against him have been made public.
