A young man's fight for life came to a tragic end this past week, following a shooting in the Tower Grove South neighborhood of St. Louis. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Darion Reed, succumbed to his injuries on August 29, after being hospitalized since the incident on August 23, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The shooting occurred in the mid-afternoon near S. Kingshighway and Connecticut where Reed, after leaving a nearby QT gas station, was found shot inside his vehicle. He was immediately attended to by EMS and transported to the hospital, where he was initially listed in critical, but stable condition. Yet, the wounds proved too severe, and the Medical Examiner's Office, after an autopsy, ruled the death a homicide due to the gunshot wound to his neck.
As the community reckons with the loss of yet another young life to senseless violence, the SLMPD Homicide Division has taken charge of what has now become a murder investigation. Seeking the assistance of the public, the SLMPD encourages those with information to contact the Homicide Division directly at 314-444-5371. In addition, there's an appeal to tipsters who prefer anonymity with a potential cash reward through CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477), emphasizing that only tips leading to a felony arrest are eligible for the reward.
Details from the day of the shooting have been sparse, but witnesses near the scene described seeing Reed's car stopped on S. Kingshighway shortly after he left the gas station.
