If you've been tying yourself in knots traveling between government buildings just to get your boat and trailer squared away, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has rolled out a change aimed at streamlining the process. The LDWF, in partnership with the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV), is now allowing customers to register their boats and trailers at a single location, making it easier for new and used boat owners to navigate the bureaucratic waters. In an update provided by the LDWF, they laid out the new limited hours for OMV services at the LDWF headquarters: Every Monday, an OMV representative will be on-site from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 2000 Quail Drive in Baton Rouge.
Despite this convenience, the OMV's new hours, shortened due to staffing issues, may not be all smooth sailing for some. Starting today, boat trailer registration has been confined to this halved window at the start of the week – though the Department of Revenue will still hold a longer line, being available from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to process any tax payments related to boat registrations, it has dramatically limited the time boaters spend in government offices still, it directs a bit of hitch into what could otherwise be a seamless Monday.
The move to consolidate services under one roof is a practical response to a common time-drain faced by boat owners. This partnership between LDWF and OMV is a targeted effort to eliminate the need for multiple trips to various agencies, as confirmed by the LDWF's announcement.
