Breaking into a local Boston store turned sour for one individual yesterday night when Boston Police swiftly apprehended the suspect caught red-handed. Boston Police Department reports that officers responded to a call around 10:30 PM for a breaking and entering at Going Bananas, a business stationed in the heart of Downtown at 65 Salem Street.
According to authorities, a suspect wearing a black hoodie and black jeans marked with graffiti was reported attempting to break in the storefront, which elicited the police response; upon arrival, a man matching the suspect's description was found in an unmistakable position crouched in front of the open store door inserting various items into his clothing. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Elvin Clayton of Roxbury, didn't get far as the police intercepted him before he could disperse into the shadows of the night.
A witness to the scene recounted a strange encounter where the suspect allegedly approached her asking for a screwdriver just moments before the police were alerted, this interaction perhaps a preface to his arrest. At the scene, officers discovered several items in Clayton's possession – a sealed box of baseball cards, a box of chocolate hidden within his pants, and additional items including scissors, a fork, and a lighter in his jacket – evidence suggesting more than casual pilferage.
