A man connected to a shooting that left a 23-year-old injured at a Nashville apartment complex was arrested this Monday by TITANS Unit detectives. Phillip Woodard, 38, was picked up at a Dickerson Pike gas station, with authorities finding a loaded handgun in his vehicle along with quantities of marijuana and crack cocaine.
Woodard, a convicted felon, had previously been identified from video surveillance footage, wielding a pistol in each hand, and using one to openly fire upon the victim on August 10 at the Dellway Villa Road complex. The arrest was partly a result of this evidence. Following his apprehension, he faces charges including attempted homicide, reckless endangerment, and various drug and gun offenses. According to Nashville.gov, his bond has been set at a substantial $615,000.
The shooting in question adds to a concerning pattern of gun violence in Nashville, a city that has seen its fair share of similar incidents in recent months. Woodard's previous convictions highlight ongoing discussions about the challenges of reintegrating former offenders into society and the battles to curb recurrent criminal behaviors.
