A suspicious backpack was found in a public bathroom at Sunset Beach State Recreation Site on Tuesday. According to the Oregon State Police, bomb technicians from their department and the Salem Police Department were called in to examine the backpack.

Searches of nearby areas by State Parks and law enforcement found no additional threats, confirming the incident was isolated. Authorities emphasized the importance of public vigilance, urging anyone with relevant information to contact them and reminding individuals to maintain a safe distance from suspicious items and report them immediately to 911.
Oregon State Police, along with the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Police Department, Warrenton and Astoria fire departments, and the Oregon Parks Department, responded to a potentially dangerous incident. The situation was quickly resolved, but the investigation is still ongoing.
