
A man was shot and killed after entering a home without permission in Tarpon Springs over the weekend. The Tarpon Springs Police Department is investigating whether the case falls under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, according to WFLA.
Police were called to a residence on Midway Lane at about 12:41 a.m. yesterday. Officers found George Tirikos with gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities said the residents involved are cooperating with the investigation.
Assistant Chief of Police Taurean Mathis told FOX 13 News there appears to be some familiarity between the individuals involved, but the full nature of their connection is still under review. The Tarpon Springs Detective Division, working with the Pinellas County State Attorney’s Office, is determining whether the shooting is protected under Stand Your Ground.
According to a release obtained by WTSP, the deceased man unlawfully entered the residence, and an altercation occurred. During the incident, the residents retrieved a firearm and fired several rounds at Tirikos. The investigation remains ongoing.
