In a tragic turn of events over the weekend, a 16-year-old boy lost his life after falling from a highway on-ramp during a large-scale sideshow in Contra Costa County. The incident occurred last Saturday and involved a gathering of over 100 vehicles blocking the intersection of Pomona Street and Merchant Street, as reported by the CHP Contra Costa on their social media channel.
According to law enforcement officials, the young spectator ventured beyond the safety barrier of the Pomona Street on-ramp to Interstate 80 (I-80) westbound and fell approximately 75 feet. The California Highway Patrol and the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office were already on-site responding to the sideshow activity when they received reports of the fall. Personnel swiftly directed their efforts to the secondary location underneath the aforementioned on-ramp to attend to the injured party.
Initial findings indicate that the teenager's descent was accidental, culminating in critical injuries that proved fatal upon impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. The CHP's post reminded the public of their ongoing investigation.
