The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) has recently garnered major props on the international stage, snagging not one, but two coveted awards from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), and piled on multiple regional honors like cherries on top of a sundae, the accolades hailed as a testament to the state's commitment to motor vehicle and public safety.

The AAMVA yearly doles out recognition for the creme de la creme of North American public safety agencies, celebrating innovation, service, and utter professionalism within the field, this year's competition was fierce, drawing in over 400 submissions across 23 categories, "These international awards show that Tennessee is not just keeping pace, but leading on the national stage," Commissioner Jeff Long told Tennessee Government News, nodding to the diligence of the Department's employees.

TDOSHS took home the international prize for Communications in Advertising through their Safe Store Tennessee Campaign, which focused on PIO/THP, and also triumphed in the Special Event category for their Mobile Unit Response to Hurricane Helene—a quick and essential service that assisted Tennesseans with replacing lost or damaged identification and driver licenses after the storm, another crown in their already robust collection.

But the Department's winnings didn't end on the international level, they additionally reaped regional recognition with distinctions like the New Driver License Brochure (Communications - Publication), the 2023 Christmas Toy Drive (Service Award), and an award for Fraud Prevention handed to Director Melody Rampy of the Quality Assurance Division, "Our employees deliver excellence for Tennesseans every day, whether it’s restoring vital identification after a natural disaster, protecting against fraud, or giving back to families during the holidays. I am proud of their professionalism, integrity, and heart for service," commented Commissioner Long, patting the collective backs of the Department's personnel.

Since its establishment in 1933, AAMVA has remained a stalwart supporter of motor vehicle and law enforcement agencies in their efforts to not only promote safety on the roads but also secure identities and conserve lives, Its awards are a nod to these agencies and individuals who consistently set the bar high, offering stellar safety measures, laudable customer service, and outstanding innovation, as a feather in their cap, Tennessee now stands out for delivering public safety services deemed among the nation's finest by peers and professionals alike.
