According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, a driver in her 90s was behind the wheel of a 2017 Cadillac sedan when she entered the highway heading southbound in the northbound lanes.
The accident occurred near mile 4 after the elderly driver merged onto I-15 at exit 5, just as the sun was dipping below the horizon. The Cadillac collided head-on with a 2019 Toyota Highlander. The impact of the crash resulted in the immediate death of the Cadillac's driver. The Highlander was occupied by four individuals, a female driver and a male front seat passenger, both in their 70s, who also succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The two other passengers, described as younger females in their late teens or early 20s, survived the crash but were airlifted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Utah Highway Patrol confirmed.
