
The City of Tolleson has recently honored a remarkable young individual, Alejandro Salazar, for his exceptional academic achievements and notable leadership within the community. According to an official announcement by the City of Tolleson, Salazar not only stands as the Teen Mayor of Tolleson but has also earned himself the First-Generation Award for Academic Achievement alongside a significant scholarship for his post-secondary education.
Alejandro, who is currently a senior at University High School, received a $16,000 annual scholarship award to attend Arizona State University. In a statement obtained by the City of Tolleson, officials lauded the teen's ability to overcome adversity, his unwavering dedication to service, and the impact he has had on his peers. Randy Babchuk, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Tolleson, praised Salazar's approach to leadership. "Alejandro has led with heart and given with purpose, setting the standard for what it means to serve as a youth ambassador for our community," Babchuk remarked.
Demonstrating a strong sense of civic duty, Salazar's role as Mayor of the Tolleson Teen Council saw him lead initiatives focusing on critical issues such as suicide prevention, drunk driving awareness, pedestrian safety, and local community clean-ups. The young leader took a moment during the City Council meeting to express his gratitude. "After all the hardships I have been through and the challenges I have faced, I am very blessed to have received this award and continue to serve my community," Salazar told the City of Tolleson.
In addition to his academic achievements, Salazar's character stood out through his volunteer work, specifically his participation in a local pancake breakfast hosted by the Tolleson Women’s Club. Councilmember Clorinda Erives recalled his contribution to the event, stating, "The way your heart was serving the community that day, I was so impressed. And now to see you achieve this award, we are all so proud of you," Erives told the City of Tolleson website. With aspirations to study public safety and pursue a firefighting career, the Teen Mayor continues to uplift and motivate his community peers.
Vice Mayor Jimmy Davis also had words of encouragement for Salazar during the City Council meeting. "Alejandro, you are an exceptional leader, and the sky is the limit for you. Your Tolleson family will always be here to support you," Davis remarked, according to the City of Tolleson. The recognition and support Salazar has garnered are a testament to his commitment and service to the community of Tolleson—as he heads toward his future endeavors, the young leader certainly sets an example for what passionate community engagement can achieve.
