Commuters in Pompano Beach faced unexpected delays this morning due to malfunctioning traffic lights at a critical intersection. As reported by WSVN, the traffic lights at the crossing of Dixie Highway and Atlantic Boulevard were not operational, creating significant congestion during the peak travel hours of the morning commute.
Authorities were quick to advise motorists regarding the situation, emphasizing that the intersection should not be treated as a four-way stop. Despite their efforts to manage the ensuing chaos, deputies stationed to direct the flow of vehicles could only do so much to mitigate the gridlock. Drivers were recommended to seek alternative routes to circumvent the affected area.
The exact cause of the traffic light failure was unclear at the time. Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) personnel stepped in to manage the traffic manually while waiting for the issue to be fixed. In an alert issued at 7:22 am and obtained by TAPinto, the BSO stated, "the traffic lights are inoperable in all directions at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach."
As of now, there has been no update on when the traffic lights will be restored to full functionality. The BSO continues to urge drivers, in their most recent advisory, to "avoid the area and find alternate routes" and reiterated that the traffic lights should not be treated as a four-way stop. This is a developing story, and details will be shared as they become available, as detailed by TAPinto.
