Last night's blaze at a Tualatin business, which was caused by lithium-ion batteries, has been contained, as reported by Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue (TVF&R) via a social media update. Units were called to the scene at roughly 11:51 p.m., responding to multiple alarms from 19400 SW 125th Court. Smoke bellowed from the building as firefighters arrived, commanding a second alarm due to the immense size of the facility and the volume of smoke.
Visibility challenges were met by the fire crews, who employed ventilation tactics to navigate the smoky interior. Initial reports confirmed that the facility was empty; no injuries were reported. "Our crews performed exceptionally due to a combination of clear communication and well-coordinated tactics. Their skills and decision-making limited the impact of this fire on the building," Battalion Chief Pete Godin was quoted as saying in the TVF&R post.
The cause of the fire, according to the fire investigator, was the lithium-ion batteries stored inside the edifice. The hazardous nature of lithium-ion batteries, known for their volatility when damaged or improperly stored, highlights the inherent risks these energy sources pose in commercial settings.
Assistance at the scene was not only provided by TVF&R but also by Lake Oswego Fire Department, Tualatin Police Department, and American Medical Response, who helped manage the emergency.
