A suspect has been arrested following a harrowing vehicle chase that ended when the car crashed into a tree. In a post on their official Facebook page, police detailed the events that transpired last Saturday when officers patrolling near 2100 N. Maplewood Ave. attempted to stop a Dodge Charger containing two individuals but were led on a pursuit instead, according to the Tulsa Police Department.

Officers on the scene described seeing a woman in the passenger seat, her arms flailing from the window, signaling distress. The driver, identified as Darrell Benson, allegedly showed little regard for her safety or the law as the chase ensued. He wove through traffic, ignored signals and swerved into oncoming lanes. The woman in the car, reportedly kept asking to be let out, but to no avail. Running on a dead-end road, Benson crashed the vehicle.

The Tulsa Police Department's statement also included that their helicopter, along with ground officers, tracked and ultimately contributed to apprehending Benson after he abandoned the crashed Charger and fled on foot. Subsequently, a K-9 unit helped to detain him, not long after his desperate attempt to escape.

Upon his arrest, Benson admitted to the consumption of meth and other drugs. Officers also confirmed the discovery of drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. While a confession from Benson, he stated that stopping for the woman was not an option for him because he didn't want to stop. Authorities later revealed that he had an existing warrant for Possession of a Firearm AFCF.

Benson now faces charges including Kidnapping AFCF, Eluding, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Multiple Traffic Violations as per the Tulsa Police Department's report. After receiving medical attention, he was booked into Tulsa County Jail.
