Saturday's calm was shattered by tragedy as Minneapolis police responded to a shooting at 15 E Grant St., where two men were fatally wounded, the Minneapolis Police Department reported. Officials say the call for a fight escalated into a shooting, and the responding officers found one man dead in the lobby, another on the second floor; both succumbed to gunshot injuries.
The suspect, involved in what police believe to be an argument turned violent, was arrested without further incident, a sharp contrast to the preceding moments of chaos, that left residents of the building, the same place where all three men involved resided, shaken as they were slapped with the reality of the violence within their walls, according to a City of Minneapolis bulletin.
A shotgun along with ammunition was recovered at the scene, and MPD Forensic Scientists have collected evidence as part of an ongoing investigation into the double homicide incident. This information details the immediate aftermath of a situation that Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara described as a painful indicator of how quickly an argument can turn deadly, especially when firearms are part of the equation.
"While today’s event is not random, it is yet another painful reminder on how quickly arguments can turn deadly when guns are involved," Chief O'Hara explained, according to the City of Minneapolis bulletin.
The names of the deceased will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, along with the official cause and manner of death, at a later time.
